Collegiate Chic

From fast fashion to high fashion, this September, back-to-school style is all the rage and I am HERE for it! From chunky loafers and sweater vests to rugby shirts and collegiate crewnecks, the varsity aesthetic is definitely a major player in this year's autumn trends.

When it comes to chunky autumn footwear, Prada are killing it right now. Their platform Monolith lace-ups and combat boots have sparked endless re-interpretations.

I love seeing how sweater vests are being styled at the moment, in a slouchy, off-duty, quite androgynous way. It kinda gives me Chandler Bing vibes, in a good way.

Strangely, despite the amount of social media coverage sweater vests are getting I haven't really seen many versions in the major highstreet retailers. I find the best places for things like this anyway is vintage stores and charity shops, usually in menswear.

Another thing that vintage stores are PERFECT for is collegiate crew necks. I don't know how it happened but we have somehow ended up with an abundance of American University sweaters. This is one item where there is absolutely no excuse to resort to cheap fast fashion stores. Channel Princess Di and pair it with bicycle shorts or layer with a collared shirt for a more preppy aesthetic.

What I'm seeing a lot of people pairing with their oversized vintage sweaters is pleated tennis skirts, another key piece of back-to-school fashion. Bershka is really good for tennis skirts. They've got quite a wide selection and they're all around £20. However, the size range is quite limited.
